NV K-12 teachers and learning coaches are invited to attned Space Science for Schools' Fall 2009 Science Method II course. This 16 hour professional development course uses inquiry based methods with Lawrence Hall of Science GEMS and Project ASTRO programs. Fri @1p-9p, Sat@8:30-5p. ABOUT SCIENCE METHOD II
Science Method II explores a set of hands on teaching techniques using the Inquiry based method. This method will provide K-12 teachers with tools and key science concepts to raise confidence and effectiveness in teaching systems of science through the lens of astronomy. This course will investigate the myths and misconceptions of teaching science. Students will use readily available science research and references to explain key concepts and using inquiry based techniques model K-12 experiences applying earth science, geology, physics and chemistry concepts. These activities will illustrate the effectiveness and simplicity of preparing the right type of observations, discussions and experiments that crystallize science concepts. Students will explore time saving techniques to answer complex science questions without extensive predisposition to science subjects.
